how the map works

to access the map of the city of Tempe, first, review the TempeSuperblock maps. these organize large areas of the city into a series of numbered blocks.

at the bottom of each post is a list of labels. these are links that produce a view of the blog including only posts bearing a particular label.

clicking the label "tempesuperblocks" will display all the Tempe superblock maps.

at the bottom of each superblocks post look for labels. if you want to look in more detail at one of the superblocks, look for the label for that superblock, for example, look for a label under the superblocks1-9 post for superblock 1. This will bring up a map with numbered blocks (in some cases, there will be "multiblocks") within superblock 1 and all the posts specific to the blocks and multiblocks identified in that superblock map.

block maps are very detailed - or greatly enlarged - views of single blocks. these can in turn be subdivided into what i'm calling aspects. an aspect can be documented using field observations, for example, photos, notes, data sets. linking to an aspect, via the labels attached to its home post, will display all the posted field observations and research results for that aspect.

multiblocks are subdivided into blocks using the same system with the labels, and then those blocks are subdivided into aspects.

to list observation in this system, users will need to contact me, and describe their data/content, so that i can work out how to incorporate it. see my profile.

sniffer

Sniffer automatically logs air quality readings, for example, in the home, or in the garden. Using the on line interface, users can compare their readings with other readings locally, and perhaps identify specific pollution source by identifying neighborhood emissions plumes.

the entrepreneurial process?

A considerable financial investment will surely be required to implement the plans outlined in The Yard and Palm Power.

Investors are unlikely to consider such a speculative program.

Taking an incremental approach to the problem of creating a company, I am thinking about less resource intensive product development projects.

I would like to develop the process for counting the trees in a city into a web2.0 product that will allow the public to count things on a map. Users can provide information about the trees - and other objects - around and including their homes, offices, etc. These user contributed observations can then be represented as overlays on the maps constructed by users to their own specifications.

I've designed two kinds of baskets for gardeners - and storage - and two kinds of composters for home use, which I hope to patent and license for production. I want to get into the wooden utensil business.

I'm trying to figure out how to distribute ownership of such a venture. Since one goal is to raise capital for these and future ventures, the investors will require some form of ownership stake. I would also like to distribute some shares to each and every person who participates in the development of the company, including at this early stage.

I'm trying to figure out how this would work. It may be that, some years down the road, the development work done will support a million workers around the world. What would be appropriate compensation for early stage involvement in something like that? (It presumably depends on nature of the role played by that individual.) Also, as new participants join the company, how are shares distributed to them? Presumably, an early stage participant will receive a larger portion of any year's dividend, except in as much as they are not actively involved in the ongoing development process for an extended period, in which case their stake should gradually be diluted by the accumulating shares distributed to newer participants.

Promote hydrogen as a cooking fuel.

Promote clean, high-efficiency wood heat. Install high-efficiency fireplaces in existing homes.

Market wood from urban forests throughout the region to the new Cellulosic Waste Ethanol industry.

Promote alcohol as cooking and home heating fuel. Develop and market highly engineered ultra convenient alcohol stoves.
